MARIANA MILLER

PSYCHOLOGIST
DOCTORAL STUDENT IN CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY
SPECIALIZED IN SLEEP

To me, choosing to be a psychologist is choosing to live in a constant state of self-discovery and change.

This way of looking at what I do is something I’ve built somewhere along my career and that has only grown stronger, with every day and every person that sits in my chair. This allows me to look at each person as I’ve learned to look at myself, as a person in constant (re)discovery and self-development.

This journey began when I graduated in Clinical and Health Psychology from the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences of the University of Coimbra and gave my first seps as a Psychologist.

Soon after I feel in love with Sleep

I realized that looking at someone’s night is looking at all their universes. What happens to us, the way we see, understand and interact with ourselves, with other people and with the world, old wounds that need to be seen and integrated… Sleep holds everything.

On the other hand, I’ve also realized the enormous impact that poor sleep has on our quality of life and daily functioning, at every level. All of this led me to specialize in sleep by pursuing a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology where I’ve dedicated myself to research and clinical practice of Sleep Psychology, particularly, Insomnia.

I also work with teenagers. The urge to do so came from my work with children and youth in residential childcare. Through this experience I could see how sensitive and crucial this life stage is. More than that, I understood how much change can be accomplished by the presence of a compassionate and non-judgmental figure that helps teens to understand the whirlwind of emotions and challenges that is adolescence and guide them along the way.

Today, I welcome you to UTERUS, a place where I see my values embodied and with whom I share a home with a team with an integrative and humane outlook.
