INÊS TAVARES

CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST AND SEX THERAPIST
RESEARCHER IN HUMAN SEXUALITY

I have a PhD in Psychology from the School of Psychology and Educational Sciences at the University of Porto, where I also obtained my Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology. In Psychology I have found two complementary passions that fulfill me deeply: research, which allows me to contribute to knowledge about the biopsychosocial processes involved in emotional and relational well-being, and clinical practice, which allows me to intervene with each person in an individualized and committed way, in the different areas of Clinical Psychology.

Throughout my career, I have come to believe that the quality of our relationships is essential for our well-being as individuals and, for this reason, I have specialized in intervening in sexual and relational difficulties. I have a postgraduate degree in Sexology and for several years I was a researcher at the Human Sexuality Research Laboratory (SexLab) at the University of Porto. I’m currently doing a post-doctorate in collaboration with foreign universities (Dalhousie University and the University of British Columbia, Canada) and it’s in this context that I’m developing my research into the sexual health of couples during the transition to parenthood.

My work has focused on helping women, men and couples deal with problems or changes on an emotional or relational level, especially in challenging transition phases such as pregnancy and the postpartum period.

You can find me at UTERUS, as part of a multidisciplinary team dedicated to promoting adaptive and empowering experiences throughout the life cycle.
