Continuous Support for Pregnancy, Birth, Postpartum and Breastfeeding

At UTERUS we have a group of Midwives and an Obstetrician, specialized in the support and monitoring of women and families from preconception and pregnancy to the postpartum period and during breastfeeding.

We privilege a salutogenic and integrative model of continuous care during pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding, and the postpartum period, with science, security, privacy, affection, and respect.

Many women/couples who wish to have their baby in a public hospital hire private health professionals from outside the hospital to provide continuous support throughout the process, increasing their sense of security and promoting positive childbirth experiences. Our team is fluent in English and can also help you to communicate with the hospital team, during birth.

Hospital support by our team is possible in hospitals that are currently allowing women to have more than one companion during labor (midwife, doula, photographer…). It is also possible in hospitals that allow only one companion – however, in these cases the woman will have to choose the professional as her only companion during birth.

When the service is activated, the team of nurse midwives stays on call 24/24h.

When the pregnant woman suspects that labor has started, she phones the midwife, to meet her at home and validate that labor has started. The midwife then provides support to the woman at home, during the initial phase, and ensures referral to the hospital in the active phase of labor.

Once labor has begun, and according to the woman’s wishes, the midwife will accompany her from home to the hospital, transmit the clinical data collected at home to the hospital health professionals, and continue to give her support in the hospital until birth.

As soon as the woman is admitted to the labor ward, clinical care must then be provided by the hospital team, because it is only allowed by hospitals, at this time, that the companions provide emotional support and comfort care.

Support during pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding, or the postpartum period may be required separately. However, labor support always implies some follow-up during pregnancy.

Our team’s care is based on the basic principles of the Midwifery Model of Care and includes:

  • analyzing the health signs and promoting the overall balance of the pregnant woman (body, mind, and spirit)
  • informing you about the actual options available at each stage of pregnancy and birth and their associated risks and benefits
  • supporting you in the preparation of the birth plan
  • offering you a 24/24hour phone support
  • availability to ensure continuity of care
  • informing, training, and encouraging you for the use of non-pharmacological methods for comfort and progression of labor (massage, rebozo, positioning, breathing techniques, vocalizations, among others)
