PSYCHOLOGY CONSULTATION

Pregnancy is a period that allows the preparation and consolidation of a new role, which is motherhood. If we take into account the psychological dimension of women, this is a natural life experience that involves reflection, managing values and expectations, fantasizing, and living with emotions that usually oscillate between a sense of well-being and joy and stress, worry, and anxiety.

During pregnancy a woman has the opportunity to affectively bond with her baby, to incorporate her existence and the role of motherhood into her identity, to rehearse maternal roles and tasks, and to establish new relational boundaries that will allow her to welcome her baby. For many women, this phase is experienced with significant and stable levels of well-being. For others, it can be a physiologically and psychologically more demanding phase, with emotional instability, feelings of permanent anguish and uncertainty, as well as significant difficulties in dealing with physical discomfort, at-risk pregnancies, and illness associated or not with pregnancy. A more negative experience of the pregnancy period can also lead to a more challenging experience of the postpartum period.

The Clinical Psychology Consultation exists to help women deal with any biopsychosocial difficulties that may arise during pregnancy, as well as to prevent more serious psychological difficulties that may arise in the postpartum period.

The Clinical Psychology consultation at UTERUS follows the Cognitive-Behavioral Model, which consists of a structured and collaborative approach that will allow the person to acquire cognitive, emotional and behavioral strategies to deal with their current difficulties, taking into account their context, personal history and individuality.

Some reasons that lead to psychology appointments during pregnancy:

  • difficulties in problem solving and emotional regulation
  • high levels of stress and anxiety
  • depressive symptoms, such as sadness and lack of interest or pleasure in normal activities, that cause significant levels of interference and distress
  • relational difficulties, namely with partner and/or family and/or other interpersonal relationships, causing significant levels of interference and distress
  • significant difficulties in adjusting to health problems that appear during pregnancy or in the presence of a high-risk pregnancy

As a sex therapist, the psychologist of the UTERUS team can also make important contributions in the case of difficulties related to intimacy and sexuality.

The number of sessions varies according to the type and degree of difficulties and the objectives defined during the psychotherapeutic process.

The nutrition appointment can be performed at UTERUS premises or online.
