DIANA LOPES

WOMEN’S HEALTH AND PELVIC HEALTH PHYSIOTHERAPIST
CLINICAL PILATES INSTRUCTOR

I’m a physiotherapist, passionate about the mission of helping other women to know and understand their bodies, through movement and health literacy.

I graduated in Physiotherapy in 2011 from the Escola Superior de Saúde do Porto (ESS-Porto). It was while I was still at university that my interest in pregnancy and the postpartum period, the subject of my degree thesis, was sparked. My journey at UTERUS began a few months later, in 2012. Here I found the opportunity to do what I love most, while growing as a woman and a professional, in a team, sharing.

Movement and body expression have always amazed me. Perhaps that’s why the additional training in Pilates, the method of which I am an instructor, made so much sense to me shortly after completing my graduation – and is now such an important resource in my professional day-to-day life.

In this quest to know and understand the human body in all its anatomical and functional complexity, I found in my training in Osteopathy at the Escuela de Osteopatía de Madrid (EOM) an integrated vision, that allowed me to explore new hypotheses in the clinical reasoning process, and to deepen my skills in the area of manual therapy.

This passion for women’s health grew with me as I discovered myself professionally. With it also grew a curiosity to know more, and a commitment and responsibility to provide the best care, with evidence-based practice. As a result, I regularly try to update and broaden my knowledge through specialized training in women’s health, and I let myself be inspired by the knowledge and experience of national and international trainers who share the same motivation.
It is with great pleasure that I share my knowledge and experience with other colleagues, as an Invited Assistant Professor at Escola Superior de Saúde do Porto, the institution from which I graduated, and as a trainer in different courses for health professionals.

UTERUS is a second home for me. Here, I have met fantastic women, and I have the privilege of working as part of a team with some of them. Here, I have found values in which I recognize myself, and a model of care that is truly centered on the women who come to us. I love my profession, and it is with great joy that I strive to integrate my passion, expertise, and clinical experience into supporting women on a daily basis.

It was from sharing the experiences of so many women, and inspired by the inexhaustible energy of my friend, teammate and mentor Isabel Ferreira, that I decided to take on an even more active role in advocating for women’s rights: I’m currently vice-president of Vozes da Mulher Association.
I believe that, in health as in life, the path is paved with information, freedom of choice, tolerance and respect for others.
